Maple and Cherry Wood Cremation Urn with Gold Leaf Detail
This unique cremation urn harmoniously combines the luminous softness of maple with the warm tones of cherry wood in a natural and soothing composition. Carefully handcrafted, it highlights the authentic beauty of wood, its textures, and its organic details.
At the heart of the piece, the cherry wood knot — a symbol of individuality and life — is delicately adorned with a touch of gold leaf. Inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi, this subtle golden accent celebrates the marks of time and imperfection as sources of beauty and resilience. Echoing this ancient art of repairing broken pottery with gold, for me it is a personal interpretation adapted to my practice, highlighting the beauty found in imperfections and showing that there is light in the cracks. The delicate golden touches represent the beauty that can emerge from imperfections and the traces left by life. I use imitation gold leaf, which is actually brass (an alloy of copper and zinc), while being mindful of the ethical sourcing of materials used in my work.
The satin eco-friendly oil finish enhances the natural grain of the wood, giving it a soft, lasting sheen. Inside, a hand-polished beeswax layer provides a smooth, comforting surface designed with care to hold your loved one’s ashes.
Each urn is one of a kind, shaped slowly and mindfully — a quiet tribute to nature, memory, and the enduring beauty of connection.
