Special Minimalist Walnut Cremation Urn with Gold Leaf Detail

Here is a very special minimalist walnut cremation urn with gold leaf details.

The tree from which this wood originates is still standing, continuing to weather the seasons, purify the air, and provide shade during the summer. This urn, along with its few sisters, is crafted from large pruned branches that were generously given to me by a very dear client as a token of appreciation. You can view images of these branches being cut by following this link on my Facebook page.

It has been a wonderful experience to witness the stages of transformation and to feel the excitement of working with a material that holds great value in my eyes. As always, I use the material to its fullest potential and strive to maximize this precious resource. That’s why I incorporate the sapwood into my compositions. The sapwood, being the lighter part of the wood, brings a touch of brightness, like a ray of light.

This urn, with its unique and elegant character, is distinguished by the knots on the front face and lid adorned with a touch of gold leaf. This intervention emerges from my personal interpretation of the Japanese kintsugi technique. Inspired by this ancient art of repairing broken pottery with gold, I likewise highlight the imperfections in the wood with gold leaf details, adding a touch of light and symbolism, revealing and celebrating their beauty. The delicate golden details represent the inner beauty that can emerge from imperfections and the marks left by the passage of life. I use imitation gold leaf, which is actually brass (copper and zinc), with a commitment to the ethical sourcing of materials used in my work.

The finish of this urn is applied with a high-quality, environmentally friendly oil, hand-applied and polished in multiple layers. It provides a protective and durable finish as well as a soft satin that enhances the natural beauty of the wood. The interior is coated with an additional layer of beeswax, creating a smooth and soft surface to hold and protect your loved one's ashes.

Exterior dimensions: 7 ½” wide x 6 1/2” deep x 7 7/8” high

Capacity for ashes: 213 cubic inches

Please note that the reliquary shown is not included with the urn. However, if you wish to complement it with various items such as flower stands, bookmarks, frames, or reliquaries, customizations are possible. Feel free to contact me for any inquiries.
